NPES was founded in 1980 by a group of parents in the North Park neighborhood to create an affordable alternative to the Chicago Public Schools. Many of the school's founding members were educators, dedicated to providing a well-rounded curriculum.
After renting space in various buildings for many years, NPES purchased our current building at 2017 W. Montrose in 1999, which enabled the school to grow to its current size of 183 students. In 1999, the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) granted NPES full accreditation, which the school continues to maintain.
Every year NPES continues to enhance its educational programming, thanks in large part to the active parent body. NPES parents are highly involved and critical to success of the school-just as they were when the school was founded. All NPES parents are members of the Parent Association and serve on committees addressing everything from extra--curicular enrichment to fundraising and marketing. The faculty is very responsive to parents' questions and concerns, and informs parents on a regular basis about their child's progress as well as the general happenings in the classroom.
NPES is proud to be turning 30 this year!
