Each fall, our 5th and 6th graders journey to Wisconsin for three days of Outdoor Education in Lake Geneva. Students participate in team-building exercises as they hike, canoe, fish, learn survival skills, and navigate high-ropes courses together. Through these and other fun and challenging activities, students develop trust, strengthen class unity, and practice collaboration and communication skills. They gain important life skills as they sit with uncertainty, manage discomfort away from home, care for one another, problem-solve as a member of a group, and demonstrate patience. They emerge with pride in their independence and resilience, strengthened self-confidence, and a deeper appreciation for their classmates and teachers. The opportunities to experience the simple but beautiful wonders of nature and to engage in self-discovery are many in outdoor education, and NPES works with purpose to curate an impactful experience for all.
